There’s no separate  rear ac. Only vents in the front from what I remember. My brother had one. It was pretty neat, but the lack of adequate air conditioning was a deal killer here in the desert.

Aren’t they just a longer/taller 3 hatch of the same vintage? So every problem thkse have, plus suspension woes for the weight.

I’ve heard  cargo space sucks.

They’re awesome, and you can even get one with a manual transmission :o)

After 2009 or so, they only offered manual on the base model, so no manual + sunroof after 09 or whenever they did it. But before that, you could get a nice loaded 5 with a manual! (NOTE: this did not apply in Canada, where you can still get a loaded 5 with the stick)

Same exact suspension as the Mazdaspeed 3, so lots of aftermarket support

The second row is 2 buckets, but in other markets you could get a 3-seater second row. You might be able to import the middle seat if you can find one.

It’s the coolest modern minivan sold here (in Canada, that title is shared with the Chevy Orlando and Kia Rondo). We never got the Orlando down here, and we didn’t get the second-gen Rondo either, and the first-gen we did get was auto-only. But up in Mooseland, they got both first and second-gen Rondo with stick or auto, and the Orlando was available with manual, too.

Yeah, I’d rock a Mazda5 if I could find one with a 5-speed and sunroof at a good price

wasnt that basicly a really tall, long mazda 3?

like..to the point where someone swapped in a mazda speed 3 drive train and it ran fine?

I had an ‘08 for a couple years. I loved it (sliding doors + stick, no competition). It is definitely tight inside compared to a minivan, but if you appreciate space efficient basic transport, it’s pretty great.

Never had any issues that I can recall.

If you're looking for one to haul kids, I hear their crash worthiness is horrible, and that's why Mazda discontinued it. No way to economically update the thing to pass modern safety like small overlap

M ight need an engine mount if it’s an earlier gen, goes through shocks fairly quick.  Later models have better rust protection.

Rear suspension c reates bad road noise while eating tires. Ad justable rear camber arms work wonders but are a PITA to adjust. Plan for rear shocks every 30k -50k miles. Rust eats them like, well, like a mazda 3.

Great value at 100k miles if you ad dress the suspension and pre-emptivly replace the plasti c understood engine bits.

The Rondo is fine, but you do NOT want an Orlando....the bu ild quality is terrible. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen them drive past here with various electrical lighting gremlins, as a start ...I was behind once in Bridgewater where the rear turn signals would light up with the brake lights...
